Abstract

This report from the Urban Institute describes a pilot demonstration of six organizations as part of the Advancing Trauma-Informed Care (ACT) initiative of the Center for Health Care Strategies. Through this initiative, six organizations participated in a two-year pilot demonstration aimed at understanding how the health care sector can practically implement trauma-informed approaches. The pilot sites share their perspectives on adopting a trauma-informed organizational culture, training and hiring staff, promoting staff self-care, screening for trauma, delivering trauma-specific services, and involving patients in these efforts. The report looks at barriers and facilitators the organizations encountered as they implemented a trauma-informed approach.
