Volume and issue

Abstract

This journal article provides an overview of the relevant information pertinent to sex trafficking and addresses the counseling implications for working with sex trafficking survivors. The author recommends that counselors increase their awareness of the vulnerabilities that place persons at risk of becoming trafficked. Furthermore, counselors should learn about the processes through which persons become trafficked, such as through force, fraud, and coercion. The author contends that counselors working with this population need to employ a range of trauma-sensitive interventions to support the individual needs of each client.
