Abstract

This is the fourth in a series of Research-to-Impact briefs by Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago on understanding and addressing youth homelessness. This brief describes key lessons learned from the Voices of Youth Count that involved point-in-time youth counts in 22 diverse counties across the United States. The brief summarizes the benefits of conducting youth counts for communities to gather information about the number and characteristics, including identifying any over-represented subgroups, of their local homeless youth population. Youth counts provide opportunities to connect youth to services, develop collaborative partnerships, and engage community members, including young people who have experienced homelessness, in the counting process.
