Abstract

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published this resource to provide state and community leaders with the best available evidence to prevent Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and to lessen the negative effects when ACEs do occur. This document describes six strategies to prevent ACEs: strengthening economic supports to families, promoting social norms that protect against violence and adversity, ensuring a strong start for children, teaching skills, connecting youth to caring adults and activities, and intervening to lessen immediate and long-term harms. It includes information about evidence and the CDC’s public health approach to ACE prevention.
